TechnoVersions Model TT-01 Tachometer Tester

TechnoVersions Model TT-01 Tachometer Tester

Wonder if that tachometer is working? Wonder if it is accurate? The Technoversions Tachometer Tester is a professional-grade solution for testing almost all types of automotive tachometers.

It allows you to easily connect a wide variety of tachometers, and test performance from 500 RPM up to 8,000 RPM. It can be used with tachometers of any cylinder-count between one and eight. Connect the red and black leads to power your tachometer, and the green lead to provide the drive signal. You then select the number of cylinders that the tachometer was designed for, and select the output RPM (500 RPM and 1,000-8,000 RPM in decade steps). If you don't know how many cylinders the tach is designed for, you can determine that by changing the cylinder switch until it gives the correct reading. The Tachometer Tester has adequate accuracy (+/-1%) to calibrate tachometers that allow adjustment.

It is powered by a 100-240 vac to 12 vdc power-pack for bench use, but can be powered by the vehicle if testing the tachometer while it is still installed. It includes high-quality, color-coded silicone alligator clip-leads that connect to banana jacks on the main unit.

The Model TT-01 is designed and manufactured in the USA.

Applications

The TechnoVersions Model TT-01 Tachometer Tester can test almost all tachometers. Here is a summary of each type that it can test:

Standard Voltage-Driven Tachometers

This is the type of tachometer most often used. These tachs are typically connected to the (-) terminal of the coil. The Tachometer Tester "Norm" terminal outputs a 12v signal similar to TachMatch and MSD. Some tachometers need the inductive kick from the coil to operate properly. For these, the "V-Boost" terminal provides the higher-voltage spike necessary. An example of tachomers requiring the extra voltage are VDO tachometers. By trying a tachometer on both of these terminals, you will know whether the tachometer requires the pulse.

Current-Driven Tachometers

This type of tachometer, used on Smiths RVI units, some of the '60's era Fords, and many of the early Datsuns can normally be identified by a loop in a wire near the back of the tachometer. They are normally connected between the ignition switch and the (+) terminal of the coil.

"Vintage" Tachometers

This type of tachometer uses an interface box (such as the Sun EB-seres) between the ignition system and the tachometer head. These tachometers have just two terminals on the back, labeled (+) and (-). The Tachometer Tester can drive these tachometers without the interface box. A TachMatch can be used to replace (or be installed within) the original interface box.

What won't it test?

The Model TT-01 will not work on CAN-bus tachometers. Also, it will not work on tachometers that use a "puck"-type interface box, such as the Stewart Warner 760 series - if you need support for this type of tachometer, contact the Accutach Co. in San Jose.

More Detailed Information...

Refer to the instruction manual for specifications, limited-warranty, return policy and more details about operation.

The Tachometer Tester can be shipped with either a US or Euro power pack at no additional charge. Unless notified otherwise, it is shipped with the US plug. Also available, at additional cost, is internal battery power that allows the tester to be used in places with no AC power. For example if you decided to take it to a swap met.

Self-Powered Option

This factory-installed option allows the unit to be used when not near convenient AC power. It consists of an internal 12v Li-Ion battery and a special charging power-pack. This is handy, for example, if you want to take the tachometer tester to a swap meet. It also makes for one less cord on your workbench, except for an occasional charge. A charge lasts for hours of testing, so typically only needs to be recharged every few weeks in typical use.

Tester with Internal Power and Hard-Case

Tach Tester Hard CaseHard case closed

The Tachometer Tester is also available in a ruggedized case. This makes the tester portable while safely protected. It is designed to provide IP65 specifications for dust and water protection. This configuration includes the internal battery option, allowing the Tester to be used while in the case. It only needs to be removed when it is necessary to recharge the battery.

External dimensions of the case are approximately 7.5” x 9.5” x 4.5” (190 x 240 x 115 mm). Shipping size is approximately 8” x 10” x 5” (203 x 254 x 127 mm) with shipping weight of 4.2 lbs. (1.9 kg) .
